"Sufficient Phaeton"... a New Art Doll!

The inspiration for this newest art doll
comes from one of Emily Dickinson's poems!
This raggle-taggle rider is made from
paperclay, canvas duck cloth and wood.
He wears a small, vintage oil can on his head.
He will eventually have articulated arms and legs...
A paperclay head (to cover this styrofoam ball)
and paperclay hands are in the works!
I will post the poem that inspired him in a day or so...
Blessings, Daryle

A New Art Doll in the Works!

The inspiration for a new art doll
is found right here...
in these wonderful, wacky, rusty wheels
and a well worn, vintage wood planer!
(please see the September 6th post...)
I envision a rider...
and so a new "road trip of creativity" begins!

"Verus North"... We were never alone!

I share again, the lyrics from
Twila Paris' song: "True North."
In part; the inspiration for "Verus North"

There’s a strong steady light
that is guiding us home,
In the lingering night
we were never alone...
We need an absolute compass
now more than ever before...
True North

"For we walk by faith... not by sight!"
I hope you are inspired and encouraged
by this bit of whimsy and art!

"Verus North"

True North is is certainly tall and stately!
She is just under 24 inches high...
I finished her this weekend.
She is holds the vintage child's compass that
Katie and I found some time ago, at a flea market.
Her hand is somewhat out-stretched and her
gaze, slightly upward... looking for direction?
"Verus North"... True North!
The coffee stained maps and letters are
rolled tightly, and carried by her side.
She is a seeker!

"Verus North"... Give Me One More Day!

Well, she has been a labor of love...
"True North" is just about finished!
I have to apply a crackle medium
to her head, hands and hair...
stitch her walking shorts and waist band
in place, and add a few "extras!"
Enjoy... and watch for more pics in a few days!
Blessings... Daryle

Rusty Doll Buggy Wheels... a Love Story!

About a year ago, Katie and I came across a set
of four rusty, old rubber doll buggy wheels at the
Farmer's Flea Market over in New Castle, Delaware.
For me, it was clearly a case of "love at first sight."
The four 7 inch buggy tires have been sitting silently,
though quite visibly, on a shelf in our work area... waiting.
This past Saturday, we found ourselves
poking around the Farmer's Flea Market again.
And there, just waiting to be snatched up...
was this wonderfully worn, old wooden planer!
(the vendor was asking $5... but with a wink, took $3)
This story is to be continued... Sigh!
