CRAVEN...Crow+Raven!

Is it a CROW... or is it a RAVEN? I'm not quite sure!
At this time... "craven" has a raven's beak but a crow's body mass.

Humble beginnings... recycled cotton insulation, paper towel tubing,
a Styro-ball and some wire and masking tape.

a body and (big) beak emerges...

Paper clay talons and Osnaburg fabric
for wrapping the toes and legs.

The best is yet to come...

  1. I LOVE this kind of work! It's my favorite way to sculpt--just start buildin' and tapin'. And I think he's a raven. We have them all over up here in the Arizona mountains--big buggers with those heavy beaks.

Can't wait to see him finished!

  2. I agree Jan... I've never been disciplined enough to sketch and "plan out" a piece through completion; especially so when it comes to working with mixed-media. I'm truly loving this journey. A raven it is...
