My Childhood Friend
translated from the German: mein kindheits freund
I've found myself fascinated, in recent months,
by images, roadside sightings and artist's renditions of... owls!
This guy stands 13.5 inches tall, has undergone multiple
trial-and-error changes from inception... and quite frankly,
is still a work in progress! (I wouldn't have it any other way)
In design... he started out with some recycled cardboard,
repurposed styrofoam board and a styrofoam ball.
Adding some repurposed-recycled stuffing and stovepipe wire
with a little (actually a LOT) of masking tape to hold it all together...
Well... he ended up looking rather, hmmmmm
Not at all what I envisioned!
And so, in the infamous words of the Queen of Hearts:
"Off with their heads!"
The styrofoam ball removed... has given him a new lease on life.
What a great way to start a new year, huh?

I LOVE doing this kind of work! Your finished shape gives little clue to how you made him--I can't wait to see the finish! (Now I have to struggle to pick up the needle and put DOWN the masking tape and foil. Dang it.)
