After the Rain...

The words were penned by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
"Thy fate is the common, fate of all–
Into each life some rain must fall..."

And the rain DID fall, here in South Jersey  earlier this week!
We were under a tornado warning... very uncommon for the area.
Lots and lots of rain, some wind, but that was the extent of it.

The rain was much needed... and after the rain;
well, these pics say it all: our flower gardens
are resplendent in color and beauty.

Even the Lamb's Ear put on a show with its flowering heads!

Common Lavender doesn't look quite so common this year,
and the Spiderwort (my least favorite plant in the garden) looks...
well, O.K. for now!

Our Prickly Pear Cactus has dozens-upon-dozens of flowers!

And the Rose Campion remains a charmer...
love that silver-gray foliage, against the weathered fence.

  1. Absolutely beautiful! I was surprised to see the prickly pear cactus (one of my favorites from the southwest) growing so beautifully in the north east. You have a lovely garden.

    1. Hi Penny! When we first moved to South Jersey nine years ago, we too were amazed to find Prickly Pear Cactus thriving in the garden of a nearby home. Then and there... I snipped off (with permission) several of the leathery (ouch prickly!) leaves and planted them around a wooden telephone pole, thick with smelly creosote residue, at the end of our driveway! Today, these delightful additions have completely encircled the pole, spread out almost three feet in every direction, and just love the spot! Our neighbor's delight in the annual show of color and then the deep red seed pods, walkers-by almost always stop (some mistakenly touch!) and we enjoy! Who'd-a-thought? (wink!) Daryle

  2. The flowers are beautiful! My Prickly Pear hasn't blossomed as yet. I love how beautiful flowers are on such an ugly prickly plant. Joyous Wishes, Linda
